You may be having difficulty carrying out daily tasks and activities, such as, getting on and off the toilet, getting out of bed or you are having difficulties because of your illness such as not being able to turn in bed or get to the toilet. If these things are a problem, you may find that with specialist advice, equipment or having changes made to your home (adaptations), you will be able to manage these things more easily and be more independent.
You can acquire any equipment needed to your home by approaching various companies or through Social Services.This equipment can be loaned and will have to be returned once the agreement has finished.
One of the ways to get a wheelchair is through the National Health Service (NHS) Wheelchair Service. This includes an assessment to make sure your needs are met. Wheelchairs can be manual or powered. You may be able get a wheelchairs from some of these organisations for short-term hire.
