You may be having difficulty carrying out daily tasks and activities, such as, getting on and off the toilet, getting out of bed or you are having difficulties because of your illness such as not being able to turn in bed or get to the toilet. If these things are a problem, you may find that with specialist advice, equipment or having changes made to your home (adaptations), you will be able to manage these things more easily and be more independent.
A Learning Disability is the disorder that affects the brain's ability to receive and process information. This disorder can make it problematic for a person to learn as quickly or in the same way as someone who isn't affected by a learning disability.
Disability, according to the World Health Organization, is "...an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. An impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations.
One of the ways to get a wheelchair is through the National Health Service (NHS) Wheelchair Service. This includes an assessment to make sure your needs are met. Wheelchairs can be manual or powered. You may be able get a wheelchairs from some of these organisations for short-term hire.
