Home Office

The Home Office is the Government department responsible for ensuring we live in a safe, just and tolerant society. We are responsible for the police in England and Wales, national security, the justice system and immigration.

Our work is organised around five key aims, which contribute towards our overriding mission: to build a safe, just and tolerant society.

Immigration enquiries

For Immigration telephone enquiries please contact the Immigration and Nationality Enquiry Bureau (INEB) on 0870 606 7766. If callers who are hard of hearing have access to a Minicom you can contact us on 0800 389 8289. Please note that we cannot provide verbal assistance on this line.

Our opening hours are Monday-Thursday 9-4.45 and on Friday from 9-4.30. It is often easier to get through later in the day.

Callers ringing this number will be able to choose between speaking to someone about their individual case or for general immigration advice. We are not able to give callers timescales for individual applications being processed by IND.

For Immigration application forms please ring 0870 241 0645. Copies can also be downloaded form our website.

You should be aware that all calls to INEB are recorded for security and quality control purposes. We reserve the right to terminate calls if inappropriate language is used. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
